Registry-style ceremonies by civil celebrants, not a government registry office. No fuss, no frills, no wedding. Just paperwork.

Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM)

The Notice of Intended Marriage, or NOIM, is the form that starts the legal marriage process in Australia.

When you need to give it

Your celebrant must usually receive it:

Booking or paying does not start that clock. The NOIM does.

The easiest way to prepare it

Use NOIM Easy.

It walks you through the form step by step, creates a completed PDF, and can help you send it on.

Witnessing the NOIM

The NOIM must be witnessed by an authorised person.

If you are unsure who can witness it, ask us before you organise the signing.

From 12 June 2024, remote witnessing may be possible in some situations, but the rules depend on where you and the witness are. If that applies to you, ask us early.

What else you need with it

The NOIM is not the only document.

We will usually also need:

  • ID
  • proof of date and place of birth
  • evidence of any previous marriage ending
  • translations for non-English documents

Important point

Giving the NOIM does not mean you are married.

It only starts the legal process.

Book first, then prepare your NOIM

Click Get Married to start. Then use NOIM Easy to prepare the form step by step.
